Please feel free to leave a comment with any general info, links, pics, or just to say hi!

...And be sure to check out our 'main' site, Gingerology - just click on the Ginger pic to the right. There you'll find a list of ALL of Ginger Rogers' films; click on any one, and you will be directed to a 'dedicated' blog about that film (not unlike this blog).

"Bachelor Mother" out on DVD via WarnerArchive...

...Well, Old C.K. over at 'Hollywood Dreamland' beat me to the 'breaking news' (nice work, Mr. Haven!) - but the Warner Archives has released "Bachelor Mother" on DVD! Here is the link below:

http://www.wbshop.com/Bachelor-Mother/1000180331,default,pd.html?cgid=ARCHIVENEW

Great to see another GingerFilm available, especially this one, which is honestly in my Top 5, period! The WB archive DVDs are very 'basic', with no 'extras', and usually a fair copy of the movie, but not restored... but this one would be worth it if you don't have it... I'm buying a copy, and I have it off of TCM already!

The only thing is, I am just not too fond of ANY of the posters for this movie I have seen thus far, and the one they use on this cover is among the 'least'...doesn't really look like either of them... oh well, no biggie... the one at the top here is probably the best of the bunch, although this 'Spanish' one below is the coolest one of Ginger - but ol' Dave is truly an 'afterthought' on this sheet!
Anyway, I hope this helps y'all out in your collection! Good to see WB still cranking them out... I will check on the other studios which are doing this (namely Columbia/Sony and 'tenatively' Fox)...hopefully we will see plenty more of GingerFilms, along with all the other great ones of the 'Golden Age'!

KIG, y'all!

  1. Most excellent...one of my Ginger favs!

  2. I heard about this today and thought of you! Hope you are doing well honey! I'm having a giveaway for Christmas! Check it out!

  3. This movie in on my Ginger top 5 too :p I have it in a very basic copy too. It's a collection of RKO dvd, with just the movie and a presentation by a critic. They haven't even put a poster on the cover, it's a screenshot lol

  4. Bachelor Mother is my favorite Ginger movie, so it's great that it's released to DVD. I wish they had restored it though. How was the quality of the TCM broadcast, Huey? When you receive your order if you have a chance, please compare the DVD and TCM quality of the movie for us.

  5. Tom: Definitely one of my 'top5' Gingers... it's generally a 'light' comedy, paced quite well - doesn't 'bog down', and doesn't get too 'intricate'...just a nice one to watch... and Ginger in the late 1930s (in her late 20s) may be the apex of her beauty, IMHO...although that may well be true for most ladies...

Kori: Thanks! Hope you are having a great weekend as well...pretty nice from where I am - took of Thursday AND Friday, so will have to get back in 'work mode' by Monday :-/ Good to know about your giveaway! I will check it out over there...strangely enough, haven't been 'bolgging' much the last few days... there's always something needing to be done around the ol' house! Thanks again, Kori!

Camille: Glad to hear you have a copy of it! The WB DVDs do not even have any commentary, languages, etc... it's just like recording it off of TCM! I wish WB would send these out to all regions... of course, the best thing would be to do away with the 'region' DVDs... guess they are worried about 'copying violations'... Hope you are doing well, Camille!

Fioraon: Well, the TCM copy is pretty good... you know, I burned a copy of this movie for a friend, was the file from 'Gorg'... and it did not play on her DVD! So I had to do another copy from the TCM recording I did from tape...it did well. I will do a 'comparison and contrast' dissertation between TCM and WB copies...but honestly, I might wait a bit to buy - I hvae learned that WB knocks the price down $10 or so after 2-3 months... I bought 'Perfect Strangers' when it first came out, just because I hadn't seen it... it's just cool they are putting these out, so it's a 'support the effort' type thing...
Hope YOU are well, Lady F!

  6. Oh! Wonderful! I saw this movie on TCM a while ago and loved it!

  7. Great to know!

For years my only copy of this movie was recorded on VHS from a showing of the colorized version on TBS, hahaha! The colorizing was so horrible that when I'd watch it I'd adjust the color on the TV to black and white so that it would look normal. During Ginger Month on TCM I got the original black and white version recorded at last, but still, on VHS.

  8. JH: Hope you can snag a copy of it! The 'g' has one as well, and may be a fair copy - I taped it (yes, it can still be done...) from TCM, and burned it over to DVD...the copy is quite good... the majority of 'g' items are taken from TCM as well...but good for folks who don't have TCM, which evidently is quite a few more than I figured...

OH - thanks for the post about the Dinah Shore with Ginger and Ida! I have seen the clips of Ginger and Dinah cooking...on YouTube... pretty interesting... wonder if that is the same episode? Ginger was on quite a few shows back in the 50s and 60s...even the 70's! I watched an entire episode of 'Hollywood Squares' once on Hulu, where Ginger was on, and she had two questions her way, and both were pretty 'abbreviated'...like maybe 10 seconds of camera time for each... dang it! Oh well, 15-20 seconds of Ginger is DEFINITELY better than nothing! :-]

Thanks, JH! Hope you are doing well!

Gingerella: Yeah, the colorization experiment just wasn't a good thing... although, being the 'completest' that I am, I wouldn't mind snagging a 'colorized' copy of ALL the Ginger movies which were altered as such... just the obsessive' G-ology collector that I am... be proud of me, tho... I have gone almost 3 MONTHS without even GLANCING at "eBay:Ginger Rogers, All Categories"... but, with 'Ho-Ho' rapidly approaching, I might peruse the current offerings... :-]

VHS is not all that bad, really, if you have a fair player... I have a 'VCR-DVD' combo deal which you can 'burn' DVDs in. I haven't tried to 'burn' a DVD DIRECTLY from the TV, but I tape a movie, and then burn from the tape... I think I am scared the power will go out or something... well, that was primarily when I just HAD to record a Ginger movie I had not seen yet, just to make DANG sure I got the copy!... now that I basically have them all (except one...) I might go back next time one is on TCM and do the 'direct burn'...

Hope you are well, Gingerella! Thanks for the info regarding the 'Colorized' editions!

A reminder for all you mamas out there...

...First of all, Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there... y'all ROCK!!!

...Well, TCM is airing one of Ginger's best tomorrow morning (6:30 AM Eastern) - Bachelor Mother...hopefully most have seen it, but just in case, here is another shot at snagging it... I found the poster above... guess it ties in with the recent Cinco de Mayo, so there you go...dang, Ginger is quite prominent compared to David Niven... well, no complaints here! :-) Pretty interesting to see 'MAMA' scrawled below Ginger... sad that she never became a mom, but just not sure if she felt she could devote enough time to a child... but this movie is just awesome, if only to see her interaction with the baby in it... she would have been quite the 'Mama', I do believe!

Also, I am pretty jazzed that there are now FIFTY fellow Gingerologists who have joined up with the site....AWESOME! So great that y'all are interested in Ginger, and I am hoping to put a lot of cool stuff on here soon...know I have been singing that tune for awhile now, but this time next week, hopefully... in a related deal, if ANYONE out there has a relatively simple way to add a 'mp3 player' directly onto a blog, it would be appreciated... the few 'tutorials' I have found either seem to be pretty 'limited' players, or the installation involves much wailing and gnashing of teeth... grrrrr.... anyway, any info would be GREATLY appreciated!

Keep It Gingery, y'all!!! ...and thanks again for the support!

  1. What a great poster! It's definitely one of the ones that actually looks like Ginger! Luckily I have this one because I won't catch this airing... I'll be on a plane to Chicago :(

  2. Yes, it really look like Ginger this time. I'm having the same problem with Jean, she looks like a stranger to me on many DVD-covers.

Huey, I'm singing the same tune, trying desperately to get mp3 in. Well, I loaded an mp3-file up in the video-mode: Blogger did load it, but then it didn't run. We can certainly use the audio-track of a video and add a nice Ginger photograph to the video-track. But frankly, the sound isn't darn too swell then.

Ginger wasn't a mother. So was Jean and I can tell you a bit more: Jean didn't like to play the role of a mother in films. In Shane she had to play the part of a little boy. Well, she adored that little actor, becoming her best friend on the set. She loved children very much, although she didn't like to play the part of a mother.

I read in Ginger's book, that she obviously didn't like Hollywood high-life. She wanted to move far away, so nobody could visit her spontaneously.

Maybe those two girls aren't too different ...

  3. Oh, it's mother's day in USA? Here, it's in 3 weeks (a useless comment, I go out ->)
    This poster is beautiful :)
I love Bachelor Mother, Ginger is very sweet as a mother part. I wonder if she wanted children...

  4. Camille, she did. Theres an article out there somewhere where Ginger says there are two things she wished she did - go to college and have children. And that article, I believe, was published in 1939 or something!

  5. Clarissa said:
"In Shane she had to play the part of a little boy."

    Well, that's certainly hooey.

She played the part of the MOTHER of that little boy.

  6. What a fantastic poster!

I feel sad too that Ginger never had kids, but with the number of rocky relationships she had (she just had the worst luck at picking the wrong guys, didn't she?) it might have been for the best. I think she would have been a great mother though.

I've always wondered if her own mother stood in her way of having kids...I sometimes get the sense that Lela, as close as they were, cracked the whip beind Ginger's career. It would be sad if Lela convinced Ginger that her career was more important than having a family.

  7. Many Americans don't have charity for public persons, who admit not being ready to get children.

Actually this isn't our business. The mass-media are so greedy, because people are so nosy. Personally I would just lie to those media-people. To lie is absolutely correct, in order to protect oneself.

Jean answered she'd have liked to have 5 kids. If this was true or not isn't interesting to me. It's a private affair, as in Ginger's case.

By the way, actresses aren't saints.

  8. Gingerella, could be. Look how hard Ginger worked from the time she was in vaudevilla, through the 30's and into the 40's. By the time she "slowed down"...well compared to her pace in the 30s she was older and maybe past that stage? But thats just speculation.

  9. I love that poster, Huey!!!! It does look just like Ginger, and she has such a pretty smile.

I'll ask Return if he knows anything about using an mp3 player. You could always ask in the GMG forum. There might be someone there with technical experience who could either tell you or point you in the right direction.

  10. Glad to see all of y'all 'yakking' here! sorry it has been a few days since 'posting or commenting', but trying to tie up a few 'loose ends'... should be in good shape by the weekend, well, Sat. night, anyway...

Glad y'all liked the poster - it is pretty cool - can't remember where I 'obtained' that pic from, but it was a pretty cool website!

Fioraon - Thanks for the info about an MP3 - there are some out there, but just would like to get the 'best available' option...

    Keep It Gingery, y'all!!!

  11. Hey everyone :) Has anyone ever done business with Scooter Movies Shop? They have a pretty decent selection of hard to find Ginger movies, and I was just wondering if they are the real deal. Thanks for any help, and I really enjoy reading all the posts on here :-D

  12. This comment has been removed by the author.

  13. Hi, Desarae! Sorry, haven't heard of Scooter Movies... cool name, tho! Hope they work out - sounds like CS has had a positive experience with them - and she is a tough customer! :-]

  14. CS and VKMfan thanks for your posts :-D I will probably just order from them and see what happens. Test the water with just one DVD...LOL! My husband would probably prefer that anyway :) Thanks again.

  15. I'm WHAT???

Huey, you're exaggerating over all limits! I'm just a Greenhorn, my VISA card is brand-new and I was just crying like an anxious baby a few weeks ago.

Come to talk about baby: Was the O.G.R.E. successful in getting Ginger to pregnancy?

    Let's see, what we'll get in 9 months ...

  16.
  17. That's great CS :) How long did you have to wait? I am dying because I haven't even gotten a response as to long it will be before the order will get here?

  18. Desarae:

    Scooter@ScooterMoviesShop.com

You better inform him. Maybe your order didn't work ... - Did you pay by credit-card? And did he already take money from it? If not I guess he didn't realize that somebody was trying to order.

So you better ask him. And please report us here ...

  19. CS:

Thanks for all the input. I am going to check in with him again. I did send him an email, but I didn't receive a response. I have paid with a credit card, and the money has already come out of my account. The order is just sitting as pending on his website. I will continue to keep you posted as to how this is going :)

  20. I don't like that!

First he should confirm your order and then he may take the money. But this is impossible.

Can't you ask your bank to book the money back? If he isn't going to deliver. But they should be able to tell you, how much time you still have to do that.

Some of these days I might write him too, and ask him a few questions ...
